Apparently, in a PDF file with form fields, there are at least 2 different ways to store the form data entered by the user. This causes chaos if you switch between different PDF viewers!
I'm filling out a tax form from the (US) Internal Revenue Service. Because the IRS hasn't changed the form in years, each year I just update some of the data fields from the copy I saved a year previously.
I am looking at
the same filled-out PDF in 4 different viewers:
- Adobe Acrobat Reader (Windows) and Master PDF Editor (Linux) show the data that I entered last year.
- Firefox (Linux) and Atril (Linux) show the data that I entered in 2020.
I don't remember which program I used in which year, but I've obviously accumulated two different versions of the data from at least two different programs.
Sheesh.
I'll have to start with a clean new copy of this form, straight from the IRS, and use the same software every year henceforth.
